Building an ISO

This section is meant to hold information and links to documents relevant for generating ISOs from scratch.

• The current recipe for generating ISOs

• List of spells to be cast/installed into the ISO

• List of binaries to include into the ISO initrd

• Steps to take to clean the ISO for release

Generating a basesystem chroot

• Generate fresh basesystem chroots using Cauldron scripts

Issues to be wary of

• ndiswrapper is not presently on the iso, but is needed for some users to be able to set up networking. This should be added at least to the system tarball if not also to the iso itself. --> See installation notes at Getting ndiswrapper onto the iso for information as to how to do this (it required hacking the spell in order to install inside a chroot).

• Cleaning up/adding to the guided install docs

• Rebooting - do we unmount and eject the cd for the user and then tell them simply to reboot, or do we instruct them to unmount and eject the cd before telling them to reboot? I'm opting for the second choice here personally. --> Currently, the user is instructed to umount the filesystems and then reboot the machine, with a reminder to take out the cd after rebooting.
